Foreign Language

The basic philosophical tenets of the Foreign Language Department focus upon emphasizing an understanding of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20 and Mark 16:15) and the student’s role in helping to fulfill that commission through his own foreign language study.  The overall foreign language program is structured to help students realize that since people from all parts of the world share the same promise of God’s redemption (Revelation 5:9), they have a significant role in helping to fulfill the Great Commission of conveying God’s Word to all people of all nations.

The foreign language program will concentrate upon the student’s development of communication skills in a foreign language, their subsequent development of a better understanding and appreciation for their own language, and development of a cultural awareness of people with differing backgrounds, beliefs, and lifestyles from their own.  Emphasis ultimately will be placed upon the God-given gift of communication skills to convey effectively as purposed through the Great Commission, God’s Word, His plan of salvation, and His promises for mankind.
