English 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12
The English curriculum is designed to teach students effective communication skills, because God is a communicating God who has communicated with man throughout history through His creation, by the actions He performs, and through His message in written form, the Bible.
The program focuses on the development of the students’ verbal abilities in written and oral communication and on their knowledge and appreciation of classic and modern literature. This knowledge is evaluated as to truth or error by the Bible, since it alone is absolute truth. The literature for this course focuses on American literature.
In addition, students are expected to think logically, Biblically, and creatively about a variety of topics and themes. Then, they organize and present these ideas and information effectively. Instruction in English has at its central purpose the teaching of useful processes in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and studying. These, in turn, promote a mastery of lifetime learning skills and habits that enable communication to all men of “the hope that is within us” – Jesus Christ.
